If any of you or people you know are fans of punk rock, poetry, independent films, or just PATTI SMITH, you HAVE TO go see the documentary Patti Smith: Dream of Life! It’s a documentary from Palm Pictures. STEVEN SEBRING, director of the film, followed Patti Smith around with cameras for many years and put it all into this film. It was first released into the film festival circuit, winning the best cinematography award in a documentary at Sundance Film Festival, and then went on to be released at a bunch of art houses across the country. I saw it at the first showing in New York at the Film Forum. IT… WAS… GREAT!

The cinematography is incredible, consisting of a sundry mix of both color and black and white. It features Patti Smith’s concerts, poems, and artwork that she has done during the process of filming the documentary. It’s a pretty introspective piece, dealing mostly with the inside emotions and the concept of finding out who “you” are.
